ABOUT ALISON

I am a sculptor, working in mainly fused glass and wire, and a mix of media. I am based in Marlborough, Wiltshire and you are very welcome to visit my studio by appointment. Inspired by “Life” I love to work and create in 3D or in 2 / 3 D. I create stand-alone items, wall hangings and garden features.

While scuba diving I have been amazed by and studied the wonderful array of colours and shapes in aquatic life. This has inspired me to recreate their varied forms.

After creating wire wings for flying fish I turned to the skies for my next projects.  We live on the outskirts of the beautiful market town of Marlborough in Wiltshire and walking in the local countryside inspires me – not so much regarding fish (we couldn’t be much further from the sea!) but for local birds, wildlife and scenery.  Birds, like fish, come in so many lovely colours and are a joy to create.  I was particularly excited to see a real blackbird display his displeasure at my glass blackbird, who had invaded his territory!

AT MY STUDIO

I am very fortunate to have been able to build my studio at the bottom of the garden so no onerous commute!

I create my sculptures by cutting clear glass to shape and then adding texture and colour using frits which are finely ground coloured glass.  This is then fused in a kiln. Finally, to bring my creations to “life” I use aluminium or copper wire to provide a three dimensional feel to the sculpture, define the edges, add fins, feet, feathers or wings.
